Scar Reduction Treatment Sydney
Scar Reduction
At Beauty by Doctor Bondi Junction, we provide consultations to assess scarring and discuss suitable treatment options. During consultation, your practitioner will examine the type, depth and severity of the scar and develop a personalised scar treatment plan based on your skin, concerns and treatment goals.
What is scarring?
Scarring is a natural part of the skin’s healing process. When the skin is injured, the body produces collagen as part of repair. This can result in fibrous tissue forming within the skin, which is known as a scar. Scars can vary in appearance and may be flat, raised, textured or discoloured.
Types of scars
Acne scars may appear as indentations, deeper pits or uneven skin texture following acne-related inflammation.
Post-surgical scars may develop after a procedure involving an incision.
Trauma scars may result from burns, accidents or animal bites.
Hypertrophic scars are raised and thickened but remain within the boundaries of the original wound.
Keloid scars extend beyond the original wound margin and can continue to grow over time.
Scar treatment options
Beauty by Doctor offers a range of treatment options that may be used to improve the appearance and texture of scars, depending on individual assessment.
Lasers
UltraClear or Fractional CO2 laser treatments may be used to resurface the skin by targeting damaged surface layers and supporting collagen remodelling. These treatments may be considered for selected acne scars and some surgical scars.
Vascular laser treatments may be used where a scar has persistent redness or visible blood vessels. They are sometimes combined with other treatment modalities as part of a broader treatment plan.
Injections
Steroid injections may be used in selected raised scars to help reduce thickness and flatten the scar over time.
5-Fluorouracil (5FU) injections may also be considered for some raised scars, depending on the clinical presentation and treatment history.
Topical treatments
Medical-grade silicone gels or sheets may be recommended to support scar management by helping maintain hydration over the area and supporting improved scar maturation.
Prescription retinoids may be appropriate in some cases to support skin renewal and improve scar texture or pigment irregularity.
Other treatment options
Subcision is a minor procedure used in selected indented scars to release fibrous bands beneath the skin.
Surgical scar revision involves removing existing scar tissue and carefully re-closing the area where clinically appropriate.
Microneedling with radiofrequency, including Morpheus8, may be considered for some scar types to support collagen remodelling and improve skin texture. This approach may be helpful for selected rolling acne scars.
The Beauty by Doctor approach
Scar treatment is tailored to the individual rather than based on a single standard approach. Treatment planning takes into account the type and age of the scar, your skin type and tone, and the balance between treatment goals and expected recovery.
