Aftercare
Laser and energy device treatments can deliver remarkable results, but appropriate aftercare is essential to optimise healing and outcomes. This guide provides general aftercare guidelines for post-laser and energy device treatments.
General Aftercare Guidelines
Sun Exposure: Laser and energy treatments can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight. Minimise sun exposure for at least a week or as directed by your physician. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) daily, even on cloudy days. Protective clothing and hats can also help. It is important to include this as part of your daily routine in order to maintain the results of your laser treatments.
Moisturise: Laser treatments can leave the skin dry and irritated. Use gentle, fragrance-free moisturisers frequently to soothe the skin and promote healing. Apply moisturisers throughout the day, particularly after cleansing.
Avoid Harsh Products: Steer clear of harsh skincare products such as exfoliants, retinols, and AHAs/BHAs. These can irritate the treated skin and delay healing. Stick to gentle cleansers and moisturisers for 5 days post treatment unless directed otherwise by Dr Phoebe or her team.
Gentle Cleansing: Cleanse the treated area with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser recommended by your BBD practioner. Avoid scrubbing or using hot water, which can irritate the skin. Pat the area dry with a soft towel.
Recovery Timelines
Mildness Redness and Swelling: These are common in the first day or so.
Bruising: Unlikely but can occasionally occur after certain energy device treatments, particularly those involving deeper lasers. This generally subsides within 4 - 7 days.
Flaking/Dryness: Temporary flaking or dryness may occur, particularly after ablative treatments, resolving within a few days to a week with proper aftercare.
Sensitivity: The treated area may be more sensitive to touch, but this typically diminishes within a few weeks.
Additional Tips
Hygiene: Showering or bathing is usually fine, but avoid submerging the treated area in water for extended periods.
Hydration: Drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins and supports healing.
Follow-up Appointments: Attend all follow-up appointments for progress monitoring and guidance.
Listen to Your Body: Contact the BBD team immediately for any unusual pain, swelling, or signs of infection.
This guide provides general aftercare advice for laser and energy device treatments. Generally, you should always follow your practitioner's personalised instructions, and don't hesitate to contact BBD for any concerns or questions.
