    Treatment Complications

Possible Radiofrequency-Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL) Treatment Complications: What You Need to Know

BodyTite, FaceTite, and AccuTite are minimally invasive procedures that use radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis (RFAL) to address areas of subcutaneous fat and skin laxity. These treatments involve the insertion of a small probe beneath the skin to deliver controlled radiofrequency energy. As with any procedure involving the skin and underlying tissues, there are potential risks and complications. These are uncommon and are outlined not to cause concern, but as part of our responsibility to provide clear and comprehensive information to support informed decision-making.

Understanding these risks allows for appropriate treatment planning and post-procedure care.

    Understanding the Risks
RFAL procedures are performed in a controlled clinical environment; however, individual responses may vary depending on the treatment area, depth of treatment, and patient factors. Awareness of potential complications supports informed consent and appropriate management if required.

    Swelling and Bruising
What It Is: Localised swelling and bruising following treatment due to tissue disruption and the body’s inflammatory response.
How Common: Common following RFAL procedures.
How Long It Lasts: Typically most noticeable in the first one to two weeks, with gradual improvement thereafter.
Management: Usually self-limiting; compression and aftercare guidance may be provided.

    Discomfort or Tenderness
What It Is: Soreness or sensitivity in the treated area.
    How Common: Common.
How Long It Lasts: May persist for several days to weeks depending on the treatment area.
Management: Managed with appropriate post-procedure care.

    Temporary Numbness or Altered Sensation
What It Is: Reduced or altered sensation in the treated area due to nerve irritation.
    How Common: Uncommon.
How Long It Lasts: Often temporary and improves over time.
    Management: Monitored during follow-up.

    Burns or Thermal Injury
What It Is: Localised skin or subdermal injury related to radiofrequency energy delivery.
    How Common: Rare.
How Long It Lasts: Varies depending on severity.
Management: Requires clinical assessment and appropriate care.

    Contour Irregularities or Asymmetry
What It Is: Uneven contour or variation between treated areas.
    How Common: Uncommon.
How Long It Lasts: May improve as swelling resolves; in some cases, further assessment may be required.
Management: Reviewed clinically and managed where appropriate.

    Infection
What It Is: Bacterial infection at the treatment site or entry points.
    How Common: Rare.
How Long It Lasts: Varies depending on severity.
Management: May require medical treatment and follow-up.

    Seroma Formation
What It Is: Accumulation of fluid under the skin in the treated area.
    How Common: Uncommon.
How Long It Lasts: May resolve spontaneously or require drainage.
Management: Managed based on clinical assessment.

    Minimising Your Risk
Risk may be reduced through appropriate clinical assessment, careful treatment planning, and adherence to pre- and post-procedure instructions. Providing a complete medical history allows for a tailored approach.
